APD242-e-portfolio

This is the profile of Svetlana Makarova, and I don't personally think that it's very strong. The information about the illustrator is comprised of one sentence that doesn't really give you a feel for what kind of work they are really trying to express. Also, its only pictures with one drawing of a garment on each that look very cartoon-like.

Francisco Planelles profile however is very organized and professional looking. It contains fashion forward and innovative ideas either through illustration or mood board. Its nice to see concepts in many different ways. He actually has his education, resume, and ideas in his profile so that you can see what he has done and learned, and what skills he possess.

CRS 231-Career Prospects in the Inudstry

I would be interested in being a Retail Salesperson. My tasks would be to greet customers and and find out what their wants and needs are, handling money, maintain knowledge for certain sales and promotions, maintain records, reccommend, and help the customer obtain what they want. I would need to be knowledgable in such areas as customer service, sales and marketing, administration, management, education and training, and math and english.
Some of the abilities that i would have to possess would be oral comprehension and expression, speech clarity and recognition, problem solving, and information sensitivity.
Nationally the median wage is $9.69, about $20,150 annually, and if i were in North Carolina then i would make approximately $9.39 hourly and $19,500 annually. This profession is now in demand.
Some of the other carreers that could be easily linked to a Retail Salesperson would be Counter and Rental Clerks, Customer Service Representative, and Driver/Sales worker.

CRS 231- Issues Facing the Fashion Industry

I feel now that fashion is taking things slow, instead of going a little crazy and creating an overabundance of products, that in the past would have been ok. The general public will probably think more before we buy consumer goods, and invest in knock-offs or fake luxury due to our current recession. We as consumers buy more into the designer name and label than the actual real thing.
Designers might decide to use cheaper fabrics in their collections so that they won't be as costly to make of purchase. I feel that this would be a very good idea fo us, but i also feel that it kind of takes the expected luxury that makes them so reknowned.
It is all about who this economic devestation is actually affecting. Who is buying expensive designer labels? Are the purchases comprised of mainly the middle class, or will the designers not be affected because the affluent population will still buy? These are questions that we don't have answered this early in time.

CRS 231- New Developments in the Industry

Mainly the new developments are comprised of a huge decline in sales and store closings. Since we are in an obvious recession, a lot of business is being lost, therefore the companies and retailers suffer immensely.
Such closings are Circuit City, Anne Taylor, KB toys, Van Huesen, Sears, Gap Inc., Macys, and many more.
Fortunately the retail industry has a huge block of employment, but still not as much as previous years.
Companies are constantly looking for ways to cut cost so that there will be at least some upturn in profit. We have recently seen the worst holiday season in a very very long time. Hopefully someone can come up with a new and innovative way to make profits and boost annual sales to pull out of these hard times.

Main trends of the New York Fashion Week-CRS 231

For Fall 2009 fashions there were a lot of upbeat colors such as neon pinks, oranges, and yellows mixed with charcoals, grays, and blacks. There were a bunch of high waisted very skinny fitting skirts that had elaborate high slits just showing bare legs. A lot of variety for the urban woman. I saw a mix of leathers incorporated into the outfits with some extremely high leather boots, dreses, and jackets with zippers to accessorize them. The high black stilleto boots were also very prominate in a lot of the collections that i viewed such as Alexander Wang and Rodarte. There was a lot of metallics, crystals, and coppers. Lots of off the shoulder detail with plenty of cocktail dresses, and just a very sleek look to a lot of the designers outfits.
One of my favorite looks was a satin bubble skirts that was a beautiful purple color by Oscar De La Renta!!

Eco Friendly Clothing CRS 231

I think I good eco friendly alternative to clothing would be hemp. It goes along with other organic clothing that is good for the environment. Hemp is the same thing that you can make rope from. It helps against the fight of global warming, and also protects human rights. Hemp can be organically grown with out any pesticides or chemicals. Not only is it good for the environment but it is also; in my opinion, extremely comfortable, and a great idea. (www.Rawganique.com).

Favorite Designer CRS 231

My favorite designer is Ralph Lauren because I feel like it adds a sense of class to everyday wear. He makes a variety of polo's and button downs that you can mix and match to make one outfit become two or three.
His clothes are very comfortable and you still look a little more than casual when you wear them. I feel like I always look my best when wearing his clothes. His styles are always classic and up to date with little tweaks to the main items to make them newer and improved.
